According to The Sun, Manchester City has been told they have a chance of landing Barcelona star Lionel Messi if he is offered £500,000-a-week in wages, after-tax. This £25 Million a season deal will make him the highest-paid player in the league and it is expected to have an option for the second year.

Pep Guardiola was integral in bringing Messi to the spotlight in his time at Barcelona and Messi is interested in getting back with his former manager once again in the twilight of his career.

Messi has been a frustrated figure in the Catalan club after his failed attempt to move last summer. Messi’s entourage blamed former President of the Catalan club, Josep Maria Bartomeu for manipulating the superstar.

However, the newly elect president Joan Laporta promised the club fans that he will make everything he possibly can to persuade Messi to stay in Barcelona.

Messi has been offered a new contract with reduced terms as FC Barcelona is in financial troubles as the whole season was played without fans as ticket sales are an important part of their revenue. The overspending on players and lavish contracts for many players are also partly to blame for FC Barcelona’s troubles.

Paris Saint Germain is hopeful that they can lure the star to Ligue 1 with the help of Neymar Jr and Angel Di Maria, along with whom he had played multiple times and good friends. It however seems unlikely given the enormous payroll with players like Neymar, Di Maria, and Mbappe and might have a chance if Mbappe leaves for Real Madrid in the coming season.
